Backup, backup, backup!!!!

Argh!!!…isn’t that the first thing they teach you if you are dealing with anything computer related…be it programming, system administrating, writing, oh and photography. I didn’t (at least not with this last photoshoot with Ryan) and guess what?!?! The damn harddrive on my laptop went kaput. It started clicking like crazy which means either the head of the harddrive are misaligned, loose, bent, cracked out.

So I powered it down and powered it back up praying that it would boot right back up normally, but nada. Gave me a folder with a question mark on it and started clicking away again. :( This sucks as I was planning to back up my stuff this weekend too. I lost all the shots I did with Ryan this past weekend (all 378 of them!!) and now have to do a reshoot. Ugh!!!….so sorry Ryan.

Lesson learned…I am going to take full advantage of the “Time Machine” program on the new Leopard OS system which automagically backs up your stuff to an external harddrive every day. So, what did I end up doing?…I sent that damn laptop in for service and I spent $2k and bought a Macbook Pro. Why? Because I needed a computer this week and for next week for work…it is of the utmost importance that I have one to work…and damn Apple doesn’t have a loaner program. You’d figure they would as everyone is doing something important on their computer these days.

So I bought a Macbook Pro and gotta say, it is way, way, way better than the Macbook. Oh and I’m gonna sell my Macbook once I get it back from Apple so if anyone wants to buy it, lemme know.

Still going through the post-processing from the photoshoot of Ryan…but here is one of my favorites from that shoot:

More coming soon!

Wow, luv dem Pocket Wizards!

Just got back from a photoshoot and all I gotta say is “Wow! Luv dem Pocket Wizards!!”  For those of you that don’t know what Pocket Wizards are, they’re basically a wireless remote trigger system for your off-camera flashes.  So a remote attaches to your camera via the hotshoe and the receiver attaches to your off-camera flash.  Now everytime you take a shot, it’ll wirelessly fire your flash that you have placed somewhere else.  Here’s what they look like:

Pocket Wizards

I ordered 3 Pocket Wizards off Ebay specifically for this photoshoot today as Ryan (the model) needed headshots for the agency that she signed with…so I didn’t want to half-ass this job by using one strobe and a cheap-ass $20 remote  triggering system I bought off Ebay that would misfire half the time.  So I decided to buy a second strobe and the Pocket Wizards.  Turns out I haven’t received the Pocket Wizards yet so I made a run to Samy’s Camera and rented them (along with a 20mm lens).  And boy, did they make a huge difference.  No misfires and less hassle to work with.  And the second strobe was great…now I had 3 light sources available to me, the sun and the 2 strobes which made for great shots.  I couldn’t have gotten some of these shots if I didn’t have that second strobe.

And speaking of shots, I will have them up soon after I sort them out and do a lil post-processing…so stay tuned for those.
